Are you ready to shake?! In previous posts, we have mentioned that we love barre classes. We have been taking Jeannine’s 7:00 pm cardio barre class for 3 years, and there are many reasons why we keep coming back. When you first step foot into Rise, you are immediately greeted by name and with a friendly smile. As a new client, you are also given a tour of the studio, directed to where the barre equipment is, and given a brief overview of the class.
Cardio barre starts out strong, with a great playlist, which is motivating in itself! A great playlist is refreshing, compared to the music our kids make us listen to! We begin with a “warm-up” set, which sometimes feels like the real deal! After warm-up, we move into the arm series, where we work our shoulders, back, biceps, and triceps. Until taking barre, we never realized how heavy 2 lb weights were! However, those 2 lbs weights have really sculpted our arms, and have made carrying around a 30 lb child easier. After we work our arms, we do a nice long stretch to help make our muscles leaner. This is the part of the class we enjoy most, because it feels so nice on our fatigued muscles. Now we do a quick (quick is a relative term, right?!) cardio session. Cardio really gets our heart rate up, and helps us burn those calories! It also helps our endurance for chasing around our crazy kids! Jeannine really knows how to keep us moving and working hard! Next we move on to thighs, our biggest muscle group. Depending on how we are feeling on a given night, this can be the hardest part of class, but we love every second of feeling those legs shake! There is nothing more rewarding than being in chair position, both legs shaking like crazy while trying to tuck, but having the strength (mind over matter, as Jeannine reminds us) to make it through the full set. Ahhh made it through thighs, and now we get to stretch again. Following our thighs stretching, we move onto the backs of our legs, which encompass calves, hamstrings, and glutes. Quick stretch, and then onto abs! Working on our abs is something we love doing, because as we have said lots of times before, they are not as strong as they were pre-babies. Jeannine really focuses on our core, and always ends our ab series with a plank. We have a love hate relationship with planks! Lastly, we end with a long stretch, and two deep breaths. Class is over, the 60 minutes flew by, and we feel strong, refreshed, and lean!
All throughout class, Jeannine does an amazing job of offering modifications for those that are more or less experienced. She is also very motivating and encouraging. She really pays attention to her class, and calls you out by name when you are performing well, or when you need a little encouraging. There are many times when we are tired and ready to give up. Jeannine notices and gives us that little push we need to continue. There is something to be said about going to a group fitness class… it holds you accountable (and also gets you out of the house and away from those kiddos)!
During our 3 year practice, together, we have been through three pregnancies and postpartum periods. Both of us attended class well into our 3rd trimesters, and returned ready to work as soon as we hit our 6 week mark. And we aren’t the only ones who have taken classes while pregnant! We really love seeing pregnant women in class, and we love seeing them after pregnancy and the results that they have achieved. We both feel as though our pregnancies were stronger, and we were able to bounce back quicker since we incorporated barre into our lives. Even though we constantly talk about how our core isn’t as strong as it once was, it is way stronger than it would be without barre. It truly is an all-around great workout. We still remember our first class with Jeannine. We were amazed and astonished by how challenging it was, and how hard it kicked our butts!
Not only do we love barre, and how it has completely transformed our bodies (we have muscles in places we didn’t know possible!), but we love the sense of community and the friendships we have made at Rise. They do a great job of trying to incorporate the social aspect of working out. They have hosted a number of events, from nail nights, happy hours, and couples barre, to try to bring their barre community together. It is one thing to motivate yourself to go and exercise, but it makes it that much easier to go to a place that you love.
In our opinions, this class is top-notch for working moms! Class is only 60 minutes at 7:00 pm, which should leave plenty of time before or after class to take care of your “mom” duties. The class works so many muscles in your body, which makes it a full body workout in only an hour! It also helps clear our minds, reset our focus, release endorphins – which help our moods while dealing with kids (husbands) and work. Another aspect we like is that it never gets easier, so we are constantly challenging ourselves. We might be more comfortable with the routine and the exercises, and our form might be better, but we still shake every class! We feel a sense of accomplishment when we successfully finish a class.
On our journey to find the “perfect” workout for working moms, we want to thank Jeannine and Rise for helping make our bodies what they are today. Our arms are sculpted, booty’s are lifted, and our legs are strong and lean. We wouldn’t be able to do half of the new classes we are trying if it wasn’t for our barre training.
Thank you, Jeannine and Rise, for having us! We will be back next week to do it all again! If you haven’t checked out cardio barre at Rise, you should! We promise you won’t be disappointed in the class, and most certainly not in the results. If anyone wants to try out a class, but does not want to venture there alone, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or message us on Facebook or Instagram, and we can arrange to meet you for a class!
