Bootcamp… sounds like a scary military training class, right? As we walked into class Saturday morning, we had no idea what to expect. The studio was set up with equipment bordering the perimeter with a strip of astroturf right down the center. We both had the same thought when walking in, “Our daughters would love running around and playing with all of the equipment in here!” It would maybe even tire them out so they take a good nap! What we would do for a nap, they don’t know how good they have it.
Dan, one of the owners of HIT Fitness Training, was amazing and so knowledgeable. We were the first two people to show up, so he gave us the full rundown of the class. He told us that the class was set up with 14 stations, and we would spend one minute at each. We would then run ¼ mile, and do the 14 stations (one minute each) again. A few examples of the stations included, planks, wall sits, TRX cable rows, weighted squats, bench presses, and sled pulls. We were really nervous about one minute per station because it really sounded long! If your kid is screaming at you for a whole minute, that’s long! This wasn’t like that LOL, we were shocked that the minute flew by as quickly as it did. “You’re halfway there.” was music to our ears.
Working with heavier weights and machines, while having little down time in between exercises, seemed a little stressful at first. How were we going to remember all of this? You could tell that some of the other people in the class were regulars because they knew what they were doing, and had the form down better than these mamas! We held our own though, and even when “mom brain” kicked in and we couldn’t remember the next exercise, Dan came to the rescue! He assisted us with weights to make sure we had the right amount, and then pushed us to add more weight the second time around.
Dan was very attuned to his class and his clients. He walked around constantly and helped everyone get in proper form. It felt like we were being personally trained, as he gave individual attention to make sure we were doing the moves correctly, evaluated if we needed more weight, and pushed us to do our personal best. Working towards different goals – weight loss, muscle toning, or just showing up – you knew Dan had your best interest in mind. There were times we needed a little motivation to keep powering through, and Dan did just that! He checked in, gave us a thumbs up and kept saying “One more, you can do it!”
Why is this a good class for working moms? Well, first, this class made us feel great with a full body workout (the core was definitely targeted for us moms), and the weight training part helped us to burn even more calories after class. The more calories the better. Second, it was a convenient morning time. It was an hour long, so while our husbands were able to take the kids dance and swim class, we were able to go to Bootcamp and get our butts kicked, and meet them at home after. Another amazing perk of HIT Fitness Training is that they offer small group and one-on-one personal training from 5 am to 9 pm during the week. They also offer in-home training, which is perfect for busy schedules and privacy if you don’t feel ready to hit the group classes! This can help any mama bounce back after baby, or work around a crazy family or work schedule.
