HIIT / Cardio Kickboxing – Water And Rock Studio

Name: Water And Rock Studio

Location: Chestnut Hill, PA

Instructor: Roger – We loved him! He really has a passion for what he is teaching, and he spent a lot of one-on-one time with everyone in the class making sure they had the proper form and understanding.  He even made it interesting at certain points, which kept the class light and fun! See more in “Exercise Type” below.

Exercise Type: HIIT / Cardio Kickboxing – WOW! This class was FAN-TAS-TIC!  Going into this workout we figured it would be similar to other HIIT and kickboxing classes we have taken. Boy were we wrong. We left with the knowledge to kick our husband’s assess when they leave their dirty clothes right next to the hamper.

At the beginning of class, Roger started with some light warm ups, shuffling, front and back kicks, light punching, etc. Then we moved into the workout. We learned there are 4 types of punches to use when someone is attacking you (or you want to make your husband remember who is boss, right ladies?). They are the jab, the cross, the hook, and the upper cut. We did a bunch of exercises mixing in these four types and also adding in some front, side, and back kicks. Oh yeah hubbies, that’s right… we know how to use our feet now too!

Oh yeah, and he threw in some burpees to make us burn even more calories! Our hearts were pumping, and we were ready to go! In each of the exercises, Roger made it fun! He asked for volunteers to “run to the door” after we pretended to fight off our attacker.

At the end of the class, Roger took out jump ropes, sliders, and kick/punch pads. We each got to try out all of the props.  Our favorite was the kick/punch pads. Roger directed us how to properly kick and punch each one, and we felt like bad-ass mamas! Note to others: Don’t punch the pad without gloves on because you can hurt your hand.  Apparently, these moms didn’t listen to that, as seen in our clips on our YouTube channel.

Unique Features: The most unique feature about this class was that we learned self-defense techniques, along with a fantastic full-body workout!  We 100% recommend this class to everyone because it is so beneficial to know how to protect yourself. We went home to show our husbands what we learned and one of them said, “Wow, you’re actually kind of scaring me right now!” HA! Don’t mess with these mamas!  The other piece of the class that stuck out as unique to us was the warm up. The BEST part about this was Roger put on a Bryan McKnight song (come on, you all know who he is!) for a little slow jam cool down. Apparently this is his “thing” because one of the other people in the class took their phone out to record Roger dancing. We can’t remember the exact quote, but Roger said something along the lines of “R&B is never sleazy, always cool and light!” Whatever the exact quote was, we were dying with laughter!

Thank you so MUCH for having us! We literally can’t stop talking about how awesome of an experience we had in class, and we can’t wait to come back and do it again.
