Friday Fitness Tip – Take Advantage of Play Time

This week’s Friday Fitness Tip is to “Take Advantage Of Play Time.”  Now that it’s getting warmer outside, playtime has shifted from the playroom inside the house, to vast expansion of the backyard. Or even better, the park. We love taking our kids to the park on nice days to let them run around and get out all of their energy.  Seriously, stop running around my house. So how can we make their playtime into a workout? Why should they be the only ones to have fun? Next time you are at the park with your kids try the following exercises:

  • See-saw Dips – Work out those triceps, while still being able to watch your kids by doing dips on the see-saw.
  • Monkey Bar Pull-Ups – Who says moms can’t be monkeys? Pull-ups can be a great full body workout and as long as that neighbor boy doesn’t kick you in the stomach while you are working out, this one could work great.
  • Box Jumps –  Find a step/tree stump to use for this. Jumping up and down while your kids run round and round. Count me in.
  • Running Laps – And finally, try chasing them around for fun. Fight the urge to just sit down and watch and get up and play a game of tag to get the cardio workout you always wanted.

Give it a try next time and let us know what you think!

  1. I love this! I have a six month year old but never did I think about incorporating playtime with workout time for me. The next time he’s in his pack & play, I’ll definitely be trying some of these techniques to finally get rid of this “baby fat” lol. Great post 🙂
