Summer Is Over. Now It Is Time To Deal With My Anxieties.

Summer is over.

I can’t even believe I am saying this, but summer is over and September is here. It was a great summer, but as usual, it flew by too quickly. I have always loved fall – beautiful changing leaves, pumpkins, fall clothes, Halloween, you name it! However, this is the first year I can actually say that I am not excited. In fact, I am so anxious. So anxious that it has been controlling me. Let me tell you why.

My daughter starts preschool this week, and I am a wreck.  Last year we attempted to start her in preschool, and we had the worst year of our lives.

The guilt I have over this is crippling.

A year ago in September, my daughter caught hand, foot, and mouth disease from school which led her to have a febrile seizure. That was fun.  Next, she caught RSV from school, which was so bad that she also got pneumonia in both lungs. She was hospitalized for a few days. I have never ever witnessed someone so sick. The mental images I still have can make me cry in an instant.  In both of those situations, we were sure we were going to lose her.

As I take her to preschool this week, I know I am going to be hyper-aware of GERMS.

You better believe I will have my hand-sanitizer waiting for her. I know I sound crazy, but it is so much more than that. I am scared that my little baby is going to get so sick again this year. I am scared I won’t be able to handle it. I am scared I won’t be able to help her. There is nothing worse than staring at your little baby helpless and sick, and there is nothing you can do to ease her pain.  Isn’t that what mommies do?

I have been working with her all summer of the importance of hand-washing, and keeping those germy little things out of her mouth. She is almost 3 years old, and I am still saying, “Get your hands out of your mouth!”  Moms of older kids, when does that end?? The worst is when she responds, “You want some too?” as she tries to put her slimy hands in my mouth. No, thank you. I’m good.

I am trying everything in my power to boost her immune system.

I load her up with daily vitamins, daily probiotics, and I slip in elderberry syrup into her water whenever I can. I never thought that I would be the type of person to research so many alternate ways to boost immune systems, until last year. I was desperate to find ways to help keep her healthy and safe. I know I can’t prevent everything, but I cannot go through what I went through last year.

I am a Young Living member, courtesy of my friend, Gina, and I am constantly bugging her for immune-boosting oils! She has been a godsend to me, full of knowledge and always willing to teach. Thank you so much, Gina!

Moms, what other ways do you boost your kid(s)’ immune systems?  How do you deal when they are sick? I need all the help I can get.

We Love Shanteel Yoga Sanctuary’s Rockin’ Vinyasa Class – Let Us Tell You Why!

We had to go back and visit Shanteel Yoga Sanctuary and take Claudine’s (the owner) class! We are so happy we did! Claudine teaches the 7:00 PM Monday night Rockin’ Vinyasa class.  See our previous experience here, where Jennifer was subbing for Claudine.

We won’t go through the whole nitty-gritty of the class structure, since we already touched on it, but we wanted to show you some awesome pictures of our workout – courtesy of our friend Kristy Be sure to check her out!

Claudine started off class with some light meditating and focusing on our breaths. As we have become more comfortable with yoga, we realize how important your breathing is – it really helps us to connect our minds and bodies.

Stretching took place next. Claudine wanted to make sure our muscles were ready for what was to come!

OK… on to the workout! Bring it on!

We rock our chair poses thanks to all of our barre practice (love you, Rise!)

Warrior II is such a great, classic pose.

Claudine was very hands on, which is something we look to in the classes we take. We love being taught the proper form – after all, it is so important to not hurt ourselves.

Thank you SO much for having us back to Rockin’ Vinyasa, and allowing us to capture beautiful pictures of our experience. If you haven’t checked out Shanteel Yoga Sanctuary yet, do it! You will love it.

This Southwestern Black Bean, Quinoa and Mango Salad From Skinnytaste is To Die For!

I told you guys a while ago that I was trying to be better at eating lunch.  The only way for me to do this, is to meal prep. I stumbled upon this Skinnytaste meal – Southwestern Black Bean, Quinoa and Mango Salad – and I just had to make it.  It was pretty easy to make, and it was so good! The spiciness of the jalapenos paired with the sweetness of the mango is to die for! I made this whole serving, and had enough for 3 lunches. Give it a try!

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy – This Lemon Chicken Is The BOMB!

One of my favorite recipes is an easy one! All you need is chicken, a lemon, and McCormick’s Lemon and Pepper seasoning. I pair it with some rice and lots of veggies. It’s great on the grill in the summertime! I just wrap it in aluminum foil. It’s easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Welcoming: Yes! Before we even entered the studio, we felt welcomed. The facade was beautiful, as it felt like you were entering something special. The studio is in an older building and has character that made it feel like no other studio we visited. We were able to check in and head upstairs to the open yoga studio. It felt like the studio and decor helped us get in the right mindset for our practice.

Cleanliness: Yes

Unique Features: Shanteel Yoga is a true sacred place that allows for physical practice and healthy minds. When we left, we left at peace. We worked hard and really paid attention to our breath. Jennifer constantly reminded us to listen to our breathing and notice why it was fast or slow. Making the mind-body connection is so important when trying to live a healthy lifestyle. The mind and heart are just as important as the body.

Thank you, Shanteel Yoga, for having us! We enjoyed our practice and felt wonderful when we left. These mamas could have taken a nap we were so relaxed at the end which was not the case at the beginning of class. Remember we wanted spicy! We can’t wait to come back!
